Kinetics and Catalysis group is part of the Process Chemistry Centre (PCC) at Åbo Akademi, one of the national centres of excellence in scientific research in Finland. PCC is studying detailed physico-chemical processes in complex environments of industrial interest, this way aiming at finding novel solutions to industrial processes and products. This approach with the focus on the detailed understanding of the process chemistry we have called Molecular Process Technology. Here we present an overview of the computational studies of molecular interactions on catalytically active surfaces. Enantioselective hydrogenation on Pt catalysts, which is one the most important reaction in asymmetric catalysis, and interactions of hydrocarbons with the zeolite framework relevant for their transformation in oil refining will be highlighted.
