The Internet, The Web, What's Next?

1998-06-26

The last five years have seen a dramatic acceleration in information technology which has had an impact on every facet of modern life. The fuse which sparked this worldwide Internet explosion was lit at CERN with the invention of the World-Wide Web by Tim Berners-Lee. Has any invention in history made such a massive and immediate impression on world culture? The aim of the Conference is to look back on how the Internet revolution started but more importantly, to predict whether this tremendous leap forward in communication has now peaked or if we can expect an even greater rate of progress and diversification.
